Above: The Jumbotron at Autozone Park in Memphis shows the lineups for the Memphis Redbirds and the Iowa City Cubs.

Monday nights are boring, right? Not so fast, junior. If you live where I live, you can head to see the Memphis Redbirds, -- the St. Louis Cardinals' AAA ballclub -- and take in a game against the Iowa Cubs. The weather last night was a balmy 80 degrees. Well okay, balmy for Memphis in June.

The game was a shutout until the eighth inning, when the wrong stupid team visitors put up a six-spot and that was the game. Hey, you go to the game to eat hot dogs and just enjoy yourself. If the home-team wins, that's even better.

Above: A young fan gave the mascot a high-five, er, make that a low five.

Above: Before the game, the umpires and managers met at home plate while the videographer captured the moment (shown on the Jumbotron).

Above: Lefty Nick Additon pitched great for the Redbirds, but took a hard-luck loss. (Click images to enlarge.) Many lefties are soft-tossers, but he threw hard and had command. You can read more about him if you click here.

  1. I have been a Cardinals' fan since I moved to St. Louis in 1963 (it can't be a half-century ago). I hope the Memphis Redbirds will keep the Cardinals supplied with talent for the future.

  2. The Iowa Cubs play here in Des Moines at Principal Park (sponsored by the company for which I work). I wish I could say I'm a huge fan, but I really only make it out to the ballpark like 3-4 times a summer.

One of these years I'm going to buy season tickets and make myself go to most of the games.

  3. The Cubs beat the Cards? Well ... that could only be good.

  4. The Meister family has been hitting up a few MiLB games too. I think they're more exciting the their MLB brothers. We have the Potomac Cannons (Orioles), Potomac Nationals & Frederick Keys (Orioles) all within a 30 minute stretch. I love those minor league parks!

Glad to see you enjoy them too.
