But it's a dry heat

I'm leaving for Las Vegas tomorrow (Thursday 7/17). Just for grins, I checked the temperature there for the next three days: highs of 103, 107, 106.

This is the ACBL logo for the 2008 Summer North American Bridge Championship.

The ACBL has three national bridge tournaments each year called North American Bridge Championships, or NABCs for short. Las Vegas set the record for highest attendance in 1991 with 24,221 tables. Tournament officials are projecting this one as likely to break the record. Bridge Players just love Las Vegas (with Orlando being their second favorite and probably Toronto their third).

It is an international event, with players from all over the world. The strongest foreign players are the Italians, the Poles and the Scandanavians. Norway is the reigning world champion. The Far East is making its presence felt as well --- players from China are beginning to win major events.

You can check the Daily Bulletins by going here, and clicking on the day you are interested in.

I have interviews/feature stories lined up with poker players Phil Gordon and Steve Zoltow. If all goes as planned, I'll post a link for those interested.

Canned photo of the strip. I'll post one of my own when I return.

The ads say that "What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas." I'll see about that.

  2. Let me know too!

I'm part of an Anglo-Scottish invasion who may well be the lowest ranked team in the Spingold. Part of my job is to keep three of the team (unfortunately one from each pair) out of the casinos, or if not out of the them then not losing too much money.

On the upside, at least it's getting cheaper by the day with the dollar plunging.
