Spreading the gospel

The Poker Grump has long been an evangelist for playing 4-2 at hold 'em poker. In fact, he calls it the mighty 4-2. Other players can't put you on a hand that weak, so when you connect with the board, you can win big pots. As examples, he has posted about it here, and here and here.

The believers have begun to multiply. Cardgrrl has become something of an apostle. You can see a photo she sent to the Grump where she was on the receiving end and lost to the mighty 4-2 if you click here.

When I played in the freeroll Thursday, I was dealt 2 4 in the big blind. There were two limpers to me, and I checked! What was I thinking?

The flop was: K 3 9 and I again checked -- simply disgraceful. The turn was the 4, and again I surely had the nuts, but checked. Oh the shame of it. The river came and this was the board: K 3 9 4 3. This was my last chance to bet and I checked.

They say that the first step to recovery is to admit your weakness and escape from the "depths of denial." I'm not sure what the next 11 steps are, but I feel stronger now for admitting this publicly.

Naturally, I had a winner, but only a small pot. I could have taken them to value-town four different times and failed. I'm humiliated and I must repent. Here's a snapshot of my ignomy:

  3. I am not an apostle of the Mighty Deuce-Four. I am a proponent of Humanity's Best Friend: K9.

  4. Ah, sorry Cardgrrl. I'll be on the lookout for the famous K-9.
