Need an answer

I took this photo Thursday of a billboard on South Third Street in Memphis.

I need an answer to a question.

What kind of world do we live in where we have to put ads on billboards to try and stop adults from hurting or killing baby children?

Usually, I'm just sayin'. Right now, I'm just askin'.

  1. Donate

The Memphis Shelby Crime Commission is a tax exempt, non-profit organization. Your donations enable us to provide the vital resources and staffing needed to oversee the full implementation of Operation: Safe Community.

Seems you ran into a cross between politicians and a Sierra Club clone. I plan to contribute just after I clear my debt for $19/mo to the ASPCA ads for adopting an underprivileged dog.

People seem to run ads to get money. Cute kids and cute puppies sell.

  2. I saw one of these on our trip (near Nashville I think). I remember thinking, I'm sure that billboard is really helpful to a man or woman during a fit of rage. (not)

It's a sad, pathetic world, Mojo, that's all I can say.

  3. It is one hell of a screwed-up work, Memphis! As you know. But I think KenP has a good point!

Gotta always ask, who did this and for what purpose.

Wonder how much money the chief honcho of the Memphis Shelby Crime Commission is paid per annum?

    Just saying' ...

  4. I can tell you that the copy was written by a pro in an ad firm. Overuse of periods is a dead giveaway.

    Due diligence is always wise.

    Regardless, the sentiment is correct.

  5. I wish I could say "Only in America" to this one. Sadly, it's a global issue.

  6. great capture and message for today. Thanks for your comments on my site about the photos from my photography tour to Vermillion Cliffs and Slot Canyons. I have many more coming up and the slot canyon photos are truly amazing. It was quite a trip.

  7. Not sure how much a billboard will help to target those prone to hurt children.

Wow, some day I have to learn bridge, looks complicated when you have no idea how to play.

  10. I'm not sure billboards have power to change people...although, those who sell add space disagree.

  11. Thanks to all who made comments.

The billboard bothered me for a long time. Now, maybe I feel better for venting. But maybe not.
