Go west, old man, go west

I found this flyer when I checked my mail this morning. Poker! Not only poker, but the World Series of Poker!

I'm going for 10 days: June 13 to June 23. My buddy Sim, a terrific poker player who is also a great bridge player, and I already have our flight and rooms at the Rio. Sim's wife is a travel agent and she got us a cheap great deal -- works for me.

I plan to play in Event No. 29 for sure. That's the $1000 buy-in Seniors (age 50 or older). It's a huge event. Last year there were 3752 runners. I'm guessing that they expect more this year as they moved the starting time from noon up to 10 a.m. so they can finish the first day at a reasonable hour. Or maybe they moved the starting time up so geezers more mature players like me can get their naptime complete day one before falling asleep at the table.

I might play in a second WSOP event (or not), but I'm definitely going to play in some of the many other tournaments going on during that time. So many to choose from, so little time.

Sixty-one days and counting.
