Heartbreaker

Above: Participants in the World Mind Sports Games have to wear a name badge around their neck.

We lost our match today by 12 IMPs, a disgustingly narrow margin. We were ahead by 1 IMP after the first 16 boards, by 3 IMPs after the second 16 boards, but the other team pulled ahead at the end.

We ended up tied for fifth in a world event. I should be happier than I feel right now.

You can see how we finished if you click here (our team name is Sprung).

Tomorrow is a train trip to Brugge, Belgium. I don't know much about it except that it's a charming town and famous for its Belgium chocolates.

Probably leaving Wednesday for Amsterdam.

See the brown thing on top of the bidding screens? That's a camera. They track all the bids and play and send it to the Internet.

Above: a closeup of one of the cameras.

  1. Bummer!

Not sure it is a good idea for a depressed Team Sprung to be turned loose around a gaggle of Chocolatiers.

    Mmmmmm, chocolate.

  2. Good job MOJO! A shame it wasn't fifth at the final table of the main event at the WSOP. That'd buy a lot of Belgium chocolate!

  4. Sorry to be slow to respond to your question about tours of Costa Rica that you left on our site last week. The tour that you referenced looked good and very reasonably priced. At one point (when you are at the J.W. Marriott Guanacaste Resort) you will be about 2 miles from our condo on Playa Langosta.

If you email me at dave@CostaRicaDailyPhoto.com I would be pleased to discuss the itinerary with you further, etc.

  6. Fifth in a world event is incredible. Congratulations!

Enjoy Belgium. I assume you are going to Bruges. It's a medieval Flemish trading town, with canals and a really old, really lovely city center.

  8. HBJ : Bridge was a game designed by God to enable us to experience the ultimate in ecstasy and the ultimate in despair. I guess coming 5th there's a mixture of both. Keep up your great blogging.....and if you ever make to Sheffield pop over.....
