Tilting at windmills

Above: Last Saturday, I took a five-hour excursion to the north of Amsterdam to see, among other things, windmills. These Dutch icons used to be everywhere, but then began disappearing -- new technology (steam engines) was replacing them. In the 20th century, a program was started to preserve them.

"You're going be glad when you're back to the States," my friend Kate told me. I enjoyed my trip, but I have to admit she's a wise lady. Always nice to get back home.

Above: I played in my favorite online tournament today. When we were heads-up and the chips went in, I had 9-9 and the villain had A-8. The flop came with an ace, natch.

  3. I hope that tilting at windmills is not a metaphor for your bridge or poker playing.

  7. I always wanted to go to Amsterdam. The city where I'm from has a heavy Dutch influence--love the architecture! I've read all your traveling posts--you're so lucky.
