New tournaments at the Shoe

There have been some changes at the Horseshoe Tunica. The Saturday poker tournament used to start at 4 p.m., guarantee $10,000 prize pool, begin with 25/50 blinds, and have 30-minute levels. The new tournament starts at 3, has a $12,000 guaranteed prize pool, allows one reentry if you bust out, begins with 50/100 blinds, and has 20-minute levels for the first six levels, then switches to 30-minutes. Both the old and new tournaments cost $160 to play and offer(ed) players 12K in chips.

There were 83 runners today, down from the usual 100+ that normally sign up. I'm not sure if that means players don't like the new setup or it was just a blip. I did a Patience Factor analysis (ala Snyder) and this new structure has a PF of about 9.0. The previous tournament had a PF of 10+.

Ten players today would get paid. When we got to the final table, we eliminated two (leaving eight) and someone suggested a chop. Each player would get $1385 and everyone was good with that -- almost third place money. I had about an average stack. There were three players with big stacks, several around my range and a short stack (but it was still playable).

They've also changed the Wednesday night tournament. Players start with fewer chips, but they've eliminated antes. Believe it or not, the structure for that is now better than the Saturday tournament. I played Wednesday along with 30 others. Five got paid, and I went out sixth, boo.

  2. Spot thinks that but I checked with Bastian and he disagrees.

    Welcome home. Glad you made it through Homeland security.

    That evening tournament looks even better for a "nitty" player. :)

    I still don't understand your self-criticism. You obviously aren't too tight when it calls for that. To me, it has always seemed your understanding of the structure has been the key and results agree.

  3. Well, $1385 ain't chump change! Like your photo. Re political signs...I think the pols know that won't change people's minds but so many people are mindless they figure if the see a name as they drive in they might remember it and vote for that name.

  4. Could you give me a link or the formula if you have it and it won't take too much of your time, so I can learn how to figure out what a tournaments paitience factor is? Thanks for any help or direction you can send me.

  5. Very nice, I think that was a good chop for all. I'm with Ken, maybe you don't need to change a thing! GG

  6. When are you going to show more of your European photos...you must have a ton of them. If you put them on Snapfish, et. al., would you send me a link? I'd love to see them!

  7. @KenP: Thanks, you're probably right.

    @FlushDraww: I left a link on your web site that might help.

    @jusdealem: Thanks

    @Lowell: I didn't take as many photos as you might think. Busy playing bridge, then just being a tourist.
