Poker in the desert
Arrived in Vegas Wednesday around 10 a.m., checked into my hotel and then guess what? There is a mega-stack tournament taking place at Caesar's which happens to be across the street, so why wait?
There were 296 runners of which 36 would cash. I finished 6th going out on sort of a bad beat. The blinds and antes were so high that it was lots of shove or fold, not my favorite, but that's what it was. It folded to the small blind who moved all in for around 500K chips. I had slightly less, but an easy call with 9-9. SB sheepishly turned over Q-4 and we saw a safe flop, a nothing turn and a queen on the river. He eventually finished second. Still $1300 will pay many entries for more tournaments and I'm playing with house money.
The final table was interesting. There were four Americans and a player from Denmark, Russia, Brazil, France and Canada -- the WSOP draws them in from all over the world. I'll post a link when the results are available online.
