Poker pearl #10

This image of Nam Le is a scan of the front cover of the Dec. 17, 2008, Card Player magazine, casino edition.

The Pro: Shaun Deeb (not the player on the cover above) is 22 years old and one of the most successful players on the Internet. He is reported to have cashed for more than $2 million. In 2007, he also cashed four times at the World Series of Poker, so he's no slouch at live play, either.

He won the Full Tilt poker series event No. 9 that was a $500 buy-in heads-up no-limit hold 'em tournament. Here's are three key concepts that he gives for heads-up play:

The Pearl:
1. Keep your ego out of it. Know when (which area) an opponent has an edge, and adapt and counter it.

2. You must get maximum value out of each hand. Value-betting and bluff-catching are essential skills to master.

3. It's a big mistake to pass up most any edge during a hand. That means you must capitalize on 55% vs. 45% edges.

Card Player has a special 2-for-1 holiday offer. If you subscribe for $19.95 (that's 26 issues), you can send a subscription to a friend for free. That's two subscriptions for $19.95. You can do this online here or by calling 1-866-587-6537.
