What the heck is a Sunday Majors Gold Package?

I played in the qualifying round #2 of the World Blogger Championships of Online Poker, also called WBCOOP, tonight to qualify for the biggie on Sunday. There were 559 crazy inmates recently released from mental hospitals bloggers and 72 made the cut.

Above are the final standings with three players left. Click to enlarge.

There were some other prizes too. If you finished 28th through 45th, you won a Step 2 Ticket (don't ask, I have no clue). If you finished 10th through 27th, you won a Step 3 Ticket. If you made the final table, you won a Sunday Majors Gold Package. Yes, that's what I won! Now, can someone please tell me what it means?

It was very cool to see all the bloggers. Wolf's Head was at my table, and we had a good time. Early on I played with BWoP, I've never met her, but feel like she's one of my favorite people, so I hated it when she lost a bunch of chips with 10-10. The flop was low cards, but the turn was a queen which hit her villain.

Then the Poker Grump came to the table. He played great. He snapped off a pair of aces, when the guy only made a simple raise. The Grump called with 7 6 and flopped two pair and took the villain's stack. Then he flopped a set of 7s and won another huge pot. During all this, the Grump announced that he had a new invention that was sure to make him millions of mobneys -- the poker catheter! There were several rounds of catheter jokes. Hard boiled Shamus chimed in that "PokerStars could offer them for Fpeepees." Finally, the break came, and we could all make our pit stop.

Also, I played quite a while with Gadzooks64. She built up a big stack (some from me) and advanced to Sunday's biggie. Against her, I had Q Q and raised three times the big blind. From one of the blinds, she reraised me, I called, and we saw a flop. It was A-X-X and she checked. It looked like she was afraid of the ace, so I bet out. She immediately moved all in, and I had to fold. The Poker Grump remarked, "That's power poker." Gadzooks' reply was that that's better than [another kind of] poker. I had not been at her table before, but I wasn't really surprised at how tough she plays.

I didn't play against BamBam, but he came by and said hi when Gadzooks and NumbBone and I were at the same table. Speaking of NumbBono, he made a deep run. If you look again at the final standings I posted above, you'll see his name at 17th. MeanHappyGuy was there, as was the Lair of Lucypher, and lightning36. I was disappointed that I didn't see OhCaptain, but maybe I just missed him, or maybe he's still recovering from the Vegas Blogger gathering.

EDIT: Bruechips was there but I missed him. He qualified for Sunday and won a Step 3 ticket.

Early, this hand played out:

I raised from early position and this maniac made a big reraise. I hate big slick, but I had played with this guy long enough to see he was beyond aggressive, so I called. The flop gave me the nuts -- a Broadway straight. I checked to Mr. Maniac and he moved all in! Yes, Virginia, there really is a Santa Claus.

Then I lost mobneys on this hand:

I had been the short stack for most of the final three tables. This was the final table. Click on it to see my chips. Not so hot, right? Yep, I'm in last place.

I was about even on the night in my races. This was [EDIT] my only a huge suckout:

This was a sweet doubleup:

I had dodged bullets all night, but this was the hand that killed me. I had pocket 9-9 (a great hand when short-handed) vs. 10-10, ouch:

I had a few chips left, but this was the busto hand:

ADDENDUM: MeanHappyGuy has questioned the hand in which I hit a straight to win a big pot when we were five-handed. I moved all in with K 6. The villain called with A Q. According to the Card Player magazine Odds Calculator, the villain is a 60.41% favorite and I am 39.1% (it doesn't equal 100% because there can be split pots). I don't consider a 60/40 hand as really a suckout, actually. Yes, the villain's a favorite, but not by a whole lot.

Here's a copy of the hand record that I pulled off my hard drive. When you get to five players, the level of play should be pretty good, but do you notice a huge error by Baba_Jin? With AQ, he should move all in to isolate me (instead of just calling). By simply calling, he presented great pot odds for WMZeus to join the party. I make plenty of mistakes, but not something as simple as this.

  1. Congrats! Nice to see familiar names at the top of the leader board tonight.

I could have sworn I saw you lay a nice beat someone at the final table with K6o, rivering a straight with your 6! Get all that luck out before fantasy this weekend, please!

  2. Um, yeah, I guess I did do that. Actually, after I made the final table, all the prizes were the same except if you won first, there was a Platinum package. I don't know what it was, but I was taking chances to try and get it. Second or ninth all were the same.

  3. I had to be out this evening playing some live poker. An obligation I had from weeks ago.

Sorry I missed it, but nice run!

  4. Well played!

Believe me I wasn't commenting on your style of play when I said P*ssy poker!

Here's a screen shot of our hand that you referred to: The Hand. I did think you were just stealing and wanted you to put more chips in if you were, hence the check-raise.

I went absolutely card dead for the better part of an hour it seemed. I did finally luck out with 33 when I hit a 4 flush, d'oh. The very next had I shipped 44 into NumbBono's button raise. He called with KJ and flopped a straight. IGHN.

I've won two seats so far and a step 2 ticket. I can't complain.

  5. "Believe me I wasn't commenting on your style of play when I said P*ssy poker!"

I didn't take it as anything bad. Just meant I felt like I had been run over by a Mack truck! You bet it well to get the most out of it.

  7. Yo - great job! I didn't check to see who made the final table until this morning. I knew that NumbBono was going deep, but I must have missed your name in the leader list.

Big congrats - way to represent!

  9. Nice finish, glad you did well. Hung around for awhile but then played another tourney. Had As cracked twice more in that one but did finish 2nd. Hope to see you Sun in the playoff. If not, good luck anyway.

  10. You played well Mojo - hope to see you at the final table again. As has been pointed out the gold package is 2x215, the platinum was 3x215, 1x530 and 1x11, for a total value of $1,186. Pretty nice for a free-roll! Of course those are just tickets to tourneys, so you still need to make the money in those tourneys to make the free money.

  11. Congrats, Mojo! I noticed you were still in when I busted (120th) and was hoping you would place.
    Way to go!
