I was shot

No, not that kind of shooting. What they call the "Shot Nurse" came to our office Monday, and she was offering the H1N1 vaccine -- the one for swine flu. It cost $19 and the injection felt about the same as the regular flu shot I got back in October.

Some say the vaccine hasn't been tested enough and may not be safe. I rather think that there's more risk in not getting one.

Anyone else planning to get one? Anyone going to decline?

  2. I got the shot a couple of weeks ago. Was free, and now I can't pass on h1n1 to someone who might be really hurt by it.

  3. @Tycou and warren: The same people exposed to the same thing and some had the flu for 2 or 3 days and some nearly die.

I saw on 60 minutes, a high school football team in Arkansas was exposed. Most of the team had the flu, but one guy was in the hospital and nearly died.

  4. I can't decide. I just had a pneumonia vaccine shot and a regular flu shot. My age group does not seem too likely to get h1n1.

  5. We got ours the other day, free! The Marion Country Health Department set up shop at one of the local high schools...ran hundreds of people through in just a few hours. It was a wonderful thing for the community!

  6. I got it a couple of months ago. The thing about getting it even if you aren't in the high risk department is you are less likely to pass it on. This is very much true and important. The reality of this is the flu is just that, the flu. H1N1 is just a variant of our normal seasonal flu. It should be feared no more or no less then the seasonal flu. Most indications are that it's really not quite as potent as the seasonal flu. Don't forget, people die from the seasonal flu every year. Lots of them. As far as the H1N1 vaccine not having been tested enough, that's just misinformation (read lie). The H1N1 vaccine is prepared in the exact same manner as the seasonal flu vaccine. The billions of doses of seasonal flu vaccine should be test enough.

I did get the shot. I'd do it again. Email me if you need more information.

  7. I wonder if next year it will be possible to just blend it in with the regular flu shot?

  8. Crash: once you've had the vaccination, you should probably never need it again. H1N1 is just one variant of what we classify the seasonal flu as. Each year we get another flu shot because each year it's a different and new strain of the virus requiring a new vaccine.

  9. As of this afternoon's web update, my medical service provider still hasn't released the shots for people like me. (It's ok, MOJO, you can make a joke!)

  10. I always get my shots now. They seemed to have helped the past few years.

  11. Several members of the St. Louis Rams football team are reported to have cases of swine flu. They've canceled practices and asked team members to get vaccinated.
