Jonathon Little had this to say about hand-reading skills in the February 2012 issue of Ante Up magazine:
"Hand-reading is a skill every poker player must develop. If you find yourself constantly confused about your opponent's holding, you're not thinking during every hand or you're not paying attention.
Pay attention to every hand at the poker table . . . I often see players playing on their phones or watching TV when they aren't involved in a hand. This is a huge mistake.
If you have more information about your opponents than they have about you, you will find the money coming your way in the long run."
Ms Duck and I actually had lunch with Jonathan at Noodles in the Bellagio a couple of summers ago.
ReplyDeleteHe sponsored a poker league on his website, floattheturn.com, and the league champ (me!) won a seat to the WSOP, plus lunch with him and some of the other coaches on the site. He was a nice kid and we had a great time. It didn't hurt that Johnny Chan was sitting at the table next to us. Fun time!
I wonder if hand-reading is like reading music. I can do the latter (more or less)...
ReplyDeleteIt's really cold this morning. 52 degrees. But I'm going to put on a jacket and play golf anyway. I'm a very brave person as you can tell. The sad part is that it's only going to get up to about 72 later in the afternoon.
But I wouldn't think of "rubbing it in" as you suggest. I'm way above such crass behavior!
