Deja vu again

Above: The Delta Gold Poker Classic concludes Monday at the Gold Strike Casino.

I played in Event No. 18 of the poker tournament (see here) at the Gold Strike with the same results: When we were four-handed, we chopped (divided) the prize pool. This time, we were about even in chips so the photographer took a shot of all four of us. He said he's never done that before. When it appears in any of the web sites, I'll link to it.

Did I play great? No, but I survived among 96 runners, and won some coin flip situations when they were needed. This is always a good thing.

We played until 3:35 a.m. and it's now about an hour later, so this will be short. The main thing I noticed (again) is that when we get to the final table, players start out playing tight then eventually self-destruct for no reason. Not sure, but maybe being tired makes them lose self-discipline. Anyway, I'll take the money, lol.

Above: This is what the shot clock looked like when play ceased. If you click to enlarge, you can see it gives the time of day as 3:36 a.m., and I stayed awake without a nap!

Above: There is a photographer who goes around snapping photos. Players can buy them for a souvenir.

Above is a photo of the foyer where entries are sold.

Photos taken with my point-and-shoot.

  1. I had never heard of the final table players splitting the final money until I read your post a couple of days ago. Sounds like a sensible thing to do once you are already a substantial winner. But, I am not a financial risk-taker, not a poker player. On the few occasions when I played poker, which is about 30 years ago, I would l have to check my Encyclopedia Britannica to look up what hand beats what hand.

  2. I am a nit.

    I didn't play very well.

Yada, yada, yada I was lucky.

I guess I got cards when I needed them.

    I'm not that good, honest.

What an honest, unassuming fellow we have here. NOT!!!

    Liar! Liar! Pants on fire.

  5. Okay MOJO, time for the post we really want to read. With all the success you have been having, please let us know:

    1) Are there other tournaments in which you are NOT cashing, so we know that, outside from this great run, you are really human?

    2) What has changed about you or your game that has allowed you to cash/reach so many final tables?

    3) You have signed a deal with the devil, correct? Did he want just your soul, or were there other considerations in the deal?

  6. Your point and shoot does a good job as I think I've mentioned before. I'm surprised that you could stay up so late and still function...you're not a kid anymore, you know! Oh, wait, I'm talking about myself. Go for it, kid!

  7. WTG again Mojo. You should have retired years ago so you could have been first to 10 WSOP bracelets before Phil Hellmuth

  8. Thanks to all who left comments.

@lightning: 1. No, 2. I don't know, but it works for me, 3. Probably some variation of this is the best explanation.
