The problem of fantasy

Above: Jordan Zimmermann begins his pitch against the Cardinals Wednesday at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.

Suppose you have Jordan Zimmermann, pitcher for the Washington Nationals, on your fantasy baseball team. Wouldn't you always root for him? Whoa, not so fast. If he is pitching against your favorite team (St. Louis Cardinals, in this case), you have a dilemma to deal with. On the pitch shown above, Yadier Molina hit a ball up the middle that scored two Cardinal baserunners.

When I was in this situation Wednesday, I just tried to forget Zimmermann was on one of my two fantasy teams and rooted for the Cardinals like I always do. It was tough though, let me tell you. What do you do in a case like this?

Above: They start them young in St. Louis. Children aged three or younger are admitted free.

Above: Even airline pilots love to watch the Cardinals. Notice this plane's flight plan took it close enough so the people onboard could get a glimpse of God's team.

  1. If the Cards are God's team, my Astros must be the Devil's, because this season has been hell.

  3. And if the people in the plane looked up to the heavens, they would see Stan Musial.

  4. Since the game is meaningless, you root for your pitcher rather than the team. St. Louis has it locked up, no?

  5. Very funny! Fans are, naturally, fanatics. Therefore, anything they do does not surprise me! :))
